Hi all. I am wondering if anyone's experienced behavior like this before.

We have what we believe is a gold severum, adopted from a LPS. We don't know his age, other than when we got him last Feb.

Lately (last month or so), he has taken to residing in some silk plants in the tank. He hides so well in them that we don't see him at all. He also hides sitting vertical (not horizontal). He doesn't come out at all, apparently.

There's been no changes (new fish, rearranged plants, etc.) in the tank to bring out this new behavior. Water levels are all fine, etc. etc. There's also been no new agression w/tankmates. When we do get him out, he's not chased or bothered.

We are concerned that he may be old & he is getting ready to die (or the equivalent of aquatic alzhemiers). This is not the first time he has done strange things (he used to sleep upside down in the tank). We are just concerned that his strange behavior may be a sign of something more.

Any experiences with cichlids or older fish and similar behavior?

I have two jewel cichlids that have been hiding exclusively over the past two months and they used to roam the tank freely. I can't explain it either. Nothing around them has changed. They only come out of caves to feed and they stay in seperate caves and never seem to swim with each other.

my sajica did the same thing for a while then went back to normal and then went back into hiding and then died yesterday
