Hiya!
Within the last month and a half I've been stocking a 40gal tank. So far i've got a small pleco, a parrot fish, and just within the last week a beautiful angel fish. Everyone is getting along fine so far and the Angel and Parrot actually swim together on occasion. Theres no sign of disease and they all eat very well too... The only problem is, they all hide most of the time. No ones swimming around. I've heard adding more active fish to the aquarium will help out but is it true? I was thinking of adding a few clown loaches or maybe a few schooling fish to add a little life. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hi Mandrakus,
glad to hear you're enjoying your new tank. You were fortunate to start with a decent sized tank.

I think you're right that a school of active fish might make your others feel more comfortable and become more active themselves.

Just so you know, angels can prey on neons so if you go for a school of smaller fish you will probably want to stay away from them.

A school of Cories might be a nice, lively addition to the tank and will take up the bottom half of the tank, and will scavenge around for left overs, which is nice.

Clown loaches are nice too, but they will grow very large - 1ft I think - as will your pleco.

I hear rasboras school very nicely. They would make a nice addition.

HTH

I wouldn't get clown loaches as they need a big tank to house a shoal. Smaller schooling fish would look good but I'm not sure that that would make the angel and parrot more adventurous. I'd say adding a couple more angels or parrots would help them. Angels are shoaling fish and parrots are very 'boisterous' and inquisitive - more of their kind should be the answer.
