Does anybody know if Mesonauta insignis would cohabitate well with gold and blue rams?
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=13272(i dunno how to make it clickable)
my stock list is
6 black neons
6 hatchetfish
3 pairs of rams
2 pearl gouramis
6 panda cories
and hopefully mesonauta insignis (does anyone know the common name for this fish?)

**just making the link clickable for you--Jason

what size tank? as this cichlid gets bigger it may wind up eating the black neons. that's about all I can tell you because I have no experience with Mesonauta species but I have recently seen a very large festivum and it was definitely large enough to swallow full grown neons.

as for common name, the M. insignis is very closely related to M. festivus so I'd guess you could call it a festivum. This would be similar to how most Heros species are generically called severums.

I think the Festivum would be fine in your tank, as long as the tank is big enough.
They often grow to around 7 inches,
and I think that they can be kept alone, but am not
sure about how to set up a group.
They are lovely.
I think they would need a tank at least 48 inches long,
and 55g or more.
If the tank is big enough, a Festivum would go well with your other stocking choices.

Yep, your tank is suitable then.
I still dont know whether they are loners or
schoolers, the profile on here doesnt say,
and I cant find anything online that suggests
they are schoolers.
I am betting 1 would be fine alone, but 2 could also be.
Someone else will have to comment on that.

Lots of options,
the question is, what do you like?
What are you looking for?
An individual fish?
Large, medium, small?
Colorful? Personality?
Schooling or no?

Well some people have told me that getting bottom fish would cause some problems with my rams, is that true?? I also have 2 CL's would they be ok to add to the 55G and what is the size when i need to get them a bigger tank? sooo many questions! And I'm really interested in any fish, as long as somebody thinks it'll look cool in my tank and be entertaining.

Clown Loaches would be ok in a 55g for a couple of years.
They are slow growing. Dont worry though, you will know
when they get too big. You will look in the tank one day and go holy, my clown loaches need a bigger tank!
There are lots of options you could do,
if you want a larger individual fish,
you could go with the Festivum,
or a Firemouth, or an Angelfish or 2,
or a Pair of Discus.
If you want a slightly smaller shoaling cichlid,
Keyholes are awesome, and they grow to about 4 inches.
Also, there is Rainbowfish, they are some of the most beautiful fish in the world, the Red Irian, Turqoise, and Boesmani's are all exceptionally beautiful, and even the less colorful ones get fantastic body shapes which makes up for the lack of color. Threadfin rainbows are also beautiful, but much smaller.
