Ok so as you might know but probably dont know is my female convict died. I am still quite sad. I had her for about 4 years.

Should I add a new female? If I do does it really matter black or pink? Will they still breed?

I also have my eye on a green Sev. The only thing with this is he is a bit smaller than my male con. and I would worry about him getting beat up. Might I even have a problem with a new female convict? For the most part my Convicts havent really messed with anyone in the tank.

Here is what I have:
55 Gallon
FISH
1 Convict Male
3 Giant Danios
3 Boesemani Rainbows (2 Male/1 Female)
1 Common Pleco
1 Synodontis eupterus
1 Rainbow Shark
PLANTS
Amazon Sword

If you want them to breed then go ahead and get another female. It will depend on the male that you have as to wether he'll be picky about his female being pink or striped. I used to have a striped male con that spawned with a pink female. The pink female was killed by a larger fish in the tank so I bought a new female but this time I got a striped one. The male con killed her within a few days. So, a couple days later I bought a new pink female and he spawned with her only a couple of days after I got her. So, in my experience I would say get another female like the one you had. Others may have had different experiences though. You could always buy a pink and striped female and see which one he pairs with then return the extra.

back when I first got my convicts I kept them in a 20 gal. At that time I had 1 black male, 1 black female, and 1 pink female. The two black guys spawned and killed the pink female. This was the only time they spawned and the fry made it. Weird couple of Convicts if you ask me....

I guess I might try to find a couple of females and see what happens.

If I don't find female would it hurt to try a Sev? Is there any other type of Cichlid I might try to add into the tank?? 55 gal....so nothing too big....
