I have a lovely female convict and wondering how she'd get along with a Bolivian Ram in a currently empty 29 gallon tank with lots of hiding places?

I figure it would be a mistake since convicts are so aggressive and territorial, but I'd like some opinions please. Rams are so attractive!

Other compatible fish recommendations for a convict would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Tim

I dont think a convict should go in a 29gal in the first place.

No don't mix Rams with Convicts. I would leave the female Convict on her own in the 29gal.

29g tank is an issue for cichlids to start with. tall tank with little floor space. most cichlids perfer the bottom so you see a taller tank is a waste of space. buy a 30g and shut down the 29g. this will give alot more room for any type of cichlid you decide on.

back to the top...bad idea. agression issues are just the tip of the iceburge. size issues on top of that makes the 1st issue that much worse. 2 equally sized american cichlids with slightly off agression levels can sometimes work things out and come up with an agreement ons pace but this match up is way off. bolivians get to be 3 inches if your lucky and if its a male.

anyway...these 2 deffinetly dont belong. pick one or the other or get another tank. if you one of those types that go " thier crazy its gotta be possable im gona try it anyway" i can assure you nature will give you the same answer but not so politly

yea i had a 3 inch convict that used to beat up on all my 5 inch silver dollars and 7 inch oscar. a ram would be killed very quickly. personally i think cons are one of the most brutal fish out there. i would only put them in with dempseys, green terrors and other real nasty fish. just my opinion

IMO a single convict is a pretty passive fish, in the experiences that I have had with my convicts if they are paired up they become very aggressive, I keep a male about 5 inches in my 75 gallon tank with a jack dempsey a kribensa three silver dollars a common pleco and a Mono, none of these fish have a tatered fin or tail, I have had this set up for two years only lost one fish in that time and it was a Mono that the other one chased around until it finally jumped out.

if you plan to leave her in that tank i would leave her on her own,if you plan to move her to a bigger home in the near future, try a firemouth,i have them together and they are fine.
