Update on my Convicts........

HOLY CRAP I have a lot of fry!! I haven't gotten the guts to try and count them yet but there has to be over 100. Being that it is juch the fry and the mother in the tank I am guess that most of them will make it.

Laura my fiancee got to watch the little buger start hatching. I caught her looking in the tank quite a bit through out the weekend. I think this is a sign of a strong marrage to come.....hehe = )

If I have the timing right from the last time they spawned it should be sometime around this Sunday. Just in time for my fiancee to watch. She was wanted to watch them have babies for quite some time. Thanks again!

Here is a quick update......
I just put my Cons in my 20 gal a day or so ago. Today I went to do my water change and found a crap ton of eggs in a cave. There behavior is much different this time with nobody else in the tank.

My female con is hanging out with the eggs. My male con is just hanging out in the oposite side of the tank.

I just set up my 20 gal for a breeders tank. (This makes tank number 4 in my studio apartment. 170 gallons I think?) My game plan is to wait until they start getting in the mood again and then drop the parents in the 20 from my 55. In the mean time I am going to dump in my female guppies and hope they drop their fry.

If you have other fish in the tank, you will probabbly lose some of the fry.
If you have a breeders tank, just place the rock that they have spawned on & place it in the tank & raise them yourself, by feeding them Microworms & Live Brine Shrimp.

Here is a bit of an update. Things seemed to be going really well. They spawned on thrusday and all the eggs were still there as of Sunday night. On monday morning half the eggs were gone and a bit later that morning I realized that they were starting to hatch. I dont know what happened if another fish ate them or the parents took them out. The parents are still kind of protective of the area but there are no fry swiming around as of Wednesday. I just set up a 20gal for a breeder the next time they get ready. Probably in a couple of weeks or so I am guessing.

Here is a few pictures. They are not great but they are pictures. I have actually lost most of the fry that had. I think I might have 5 or 6 left. but they all seem to be doing well.

Wow, the pictures are quite good & the fry are pretty small, but cute.

congrates on the new fry.im shocked that one of the other fish in with your convicts got close enuff to snatch some eggs, normally when these little terrors breed they go mental, when mine spawned, mum watched the kids while dad made sure no kidnappers could snatch up his new eggs.

HOKESE,

I am not sure what happend to all the fry when I let them breed in my 20 gallon tank. I think either the momma started eatting or the filter got them. For the most part she seemed to be doing good at taking care of them as normal. I have since moved the rents back into the 55 gallon (true home) and they just spawned again. With in a few minutes my pleco ate all the eggs. He is a beast and a tank. I am really shocked my male Con hasn't taken him out. I guess a 7 inch pleco vs. a 5.5 inch Convict is a pretty good match.

Right now there are around 8 fry left in the 20 gallon. They all seem to be doing really well.
