![]() | Convict won't grow |

One of the convicts is growing like crazy and the other one is the same size as when I bought him/her. I feed them tetra cichlid granules and frozen brine shrimp. The larger convict is always chasing the smaller one around the tank (especially at feeding time). How can I encourage the smaller convict to grow? I don't really have room for any more aquariums so a grow out tank is out of the question. Any ideas? Peace! |

I know that I bought two convicts about a year ago, one male and one female, both about one inch long. The male grew very fast and is close to 4 inches, where the female is only about 2.5 inches. Males generally grow larger and faster than females. Hope this helps. |

The male is growing quite fast while the female lags behind a bit. I asked the guy at the LFS to get me a male and a female and he said that he would do his best. Thanks for the help. Peace! |

Rare in convicts, usually just over food. Some fish will do that, like a colony of frontosas, or discus, where larger fish releases an enzyme that permits rapid growth in smaller fish. Sex the convicts, observe the belly area of the fish. If there is a orange or red belly, it's a female. Edit: Just saw your post in recovery room. If you are refering to that convict, it IS a female, which would prove why it is growing slower. Females usually get a growth spurt at 2" [span class="edited"][Edited by inkodinkomalinko 2004-08-13 00:29][/span] |
