Convicts/Rabbits? | |
djcyborg Fingerling Posts: 17 Kudos: 15 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Oct-2004 | So I've had a pair of pink convicts for around 2 years now, and around 10 or 12 months ago they had a batch of fry probably 30 to 40 and recently I decided that my tank was getting overstocked with the fry getting bigger (around 2 to 3" some over 4" so I find a LFS that is willing to take them off my hands, wich isn't an easy task might I add. So anyways this friday I donate 16 pink convicts to a LFS and saved 3 of them (was my g/f's choice to keep them). Today we notice a whole new bunch of eggs on the drift wood and when we turn the light on to get a better look the babies start eating the eggs and the dad follows there lead after attempting to chase them off and the mom comes over seeing the dad eating the eggs and bites him on top of the head leaving a little mark... No real point to the story just thought I'd share it with you all,,, other than a little warning that most people allready know about think about what your getting yourself into when you buy a pair of convicts... Don't Do It sorry for the long story James |

They are really fun to watch I must say. I have enjoyed watching their spawning for years now. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

I had a batch of fry where there were some that still almost looked like wigglers while others were getting to be 2 to 3" big... It's just that in my 29 gal. tank it gets a little over-bearing trying to figure out what to do with all the fish, and not easy to find someone willing to take convicts off my hands even for free. |

Same male now but I had a different female for 3 or 4 years and I can count on one hand how many times they spawned. Well maybe two but they only had fry that lasted once. Sucked and being parents I guess. This new pair I have.. new female are good in a bad way. Every two weeks. Normally right after a water change. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

Although they didn't breed again when I left the babys in the tank, they might have attempted to a few times but was never 2 batches in tank at the same time. |
