Well the water bunnys did it again. This time they spawned in their home not the lovers get away and pulled it all off to the free swimming fry stage. Normally in the 55 gallon the pleco will take out the eggs before they get any where. The funny thing is I had no idea anything was gong on this time until I just saw the fry this morning.

There is one thing that is kind of wierd though. The male is acting as a single father and protecting the fry and keeping the mother away. Normally the mother stays by the fry and the father works the out area. The male even keeps the mother away. Has anyone else had such things go on with their fish?

Im not a convict expert but i have read of alot of south americans doign this. If the father feels as though the mother isnt doing a good job he will take over the job completly. Not entirly sure this stands true for convicts but a little googling might come up with a sure answer.

I had the father do the same thing before, and before I knew what was happening he killed the mother pecked one eye out of my pleco and killed my firemouth, he would attack the glass if I touched it, after all the killing and pecking was done I had 50 or so convicts (which took me two years to get rid of) and a one eyed pleco that hid in a log all of the time.

each convict has its own personality so it is really hard to tell you what to expect, keep a eye on him

good luck

Joe

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

I have had this male for about 4 years. For the most part he dosen't cause too much trouble.
