However, an empty 30g can hold 4-5 easily. Yes, you have to feed them a good cichlid diet, most tropical fish foods have to much animal protein for Mbuna like Labs. |

Yellows... man im gonna have to think about this. escpecially since i bought the 30G mainly cause i wanted to keep the guppy fry alive, and they would need a home once they grow outta the 1G.. hmm but wait.. why cant i keep them together?? They are peaceful compared to other mbuna, but believe me, they can be downright mean if they want to be. Please don't EVER consider flushing fish! That's just cruel and selfish on behalf of the fishkeeper who just wants something else. Those fish would actually go quite well in the 10 gallon, leaving the 30 for the yellow labs. However, I suggest you read up a lot on the labs before you buy them, they have some specific requirements in regards to water parameters, tank decoration and feeding that must be addressed. They are great fish though, I'm sure you'd enjoy them! Alternatively, if you wanted to keep your other fish in the 30, you could look at some SA dwarf cichlids such as rams, apistos or keyholes, or the West African kribs. They would be much better cichlid tankmates, and fairly peaceful (except when spawning). The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

That's not saying much. From what I have read, these are hardier than small tetras. I doubt they would kill you tetras, but it still wouldn't be a good idea. They're not predators like Haps, they graze on aufwuchs so I don't think they would find a fish from another continent very tasty. |

I had 1 remaining Serpae Tetra in my 30g that I had nowhere else to house several months ago, so when I purchased 3 yellow labs, I figured that too. Unfortunately around 3 days later, after a couple of years in the tank, the tetra mysteriously bit the bucket. So IMHO, I wouldn't risk the yellow labs with tetras. |
