What is the best way to maximize an electric blues coloring? I've had mine for about 2 months now and he's just a little guy (2.5 inches at best) and in comparison to some of the other pictures i've seen on the web, he isn't as bright of a blue as i'd like him to be. Is this b/c he's young, scared of the other fish in the tank, or is it the food he's getting (flakes) or???

It could be because he's still only small. i'm not real sure though.

Having a dark tank; dark substrate, background etc will bring out the blues colours.

Could very well be he's just small,
Could also be he's to far down the dominance ladder in the tank he's trying not to draw attention to himself.

Also most of the pics you see on line are, the cream of the crop, your blue just might not have the best coloring because of breeding...

The above mentioned methods might work, you might also want to get a good color enhancer....

If you have the means you could also set him up a tank in which he's the dominant fish, that should also help to bring out his best coloring

Good luck

Yes, the darker the substrate and darker the background, the more intense his colors will be.

As for yours, he is still much to small to show full colors. He will probably not show very intense colors till he is around 5 inches or larger. The bigger they get, the more intense the colors get. I have had them breeding at 3 inches, and just a shade of blue on them. At 6-8 inches, their blue is just mesmerizing.
