Looking good! How big is he now? They do seem to darken up as they get bigger.
Mine is a little over 4" now and he can change his colors quickly and significantly.

Here are a couple examples...

Nice pix MacFish,
My guy is a little deformed. One eye sticks out pretty far and he has a hard time seeing food. I treated him for popeye when I got him, now I realize it's just the way he is. He is, by far, the coolest fish in my tank. I try to keep my purchases under $10 or "so". This one was more on the "so" side of expenses.

Thanks

I've heard that eye problems seem to plague the EBJB's. So far mine hasn't have the issue.

Really! Wow, I've never seen one that big. Any chance you could post some pics? I assume it must be a regular Jack and not a Blue.

I can't imagine mine killing anything. He is so peaceful. He is the boss of the tank but since he shares it with Tetras and some small Thorichthys, he doesn't have act tough. Everyone just kinda stays out of his way. I had a pair of Honduran Red points in with him and they beat the crap out of him. I had toget them outta there.

I did finally get mine. He was doing quite well until about a month ago when I couldn't find him. Searched everywhere inside and outside the tank. The only somewhat-agressive tankmate is my blue acara/GT hybrid which was about three times the size of the JD; I can only assume he was responsible

oh no did it get eaten or did you find it dead? I'd give it it's own tank or put it in a community if you try another one. When I first got mine at 1", he was in a community with small tetras only.

Nice picture Teresa. The black highlights are kewl. My little guy is fighting popeye right now. He's never lost appetite but one eye bulged to the point that I thought he was either going to or lose the eye. He's actually getting better and I am going to continue the Maracyn antibiotics for 2-3 weeks to make sure he is clear of desease for a while.

I never found any part of it I'd really like to get another but they're soooo expensive. If I do though it will start out in my peaceful 30g community until it gains some size.

Thats too bad. I lost my first 6. The first time I saw them at my LFS, I grabbed 3 for $50.00. The next day I went back and got 3 more. They were very small. The biggest was no more than 1/2". They did really well for the first couple months but all 6 died between 2 - 4 months. This one I have now was about 1" when I got him and seems pretty strong.

My fingers are crossed

If you decide to get another one, definitly keep it in the community to grow a little. Even then, I don't know if I'd trust any Blue JD's with a green terror.
