Hey All,

I was doing some reading & was wondering.......I know that Electric Yellows do not get very large & they are great for a community tank & etc. My question is, how many per tank? I know it depends on the size of the tank & etc. I mean like, how many per gallon? or however. Any onfo would be great, thanks!!

I would disagree with the "great for a community tanks" bit, they need to be in a tank with other African cichlids... They are much too aggressive for community fish such as tetra or any other non-cichlids.

This site says "A large tank is not required and will often compliment a community tank." I believe the author meant "A large tank is not required and will often compliment an african community tank." but just assumed people would know that they need to be in an mbuna tank. This has lead to much confusion on the compatibility of the electric yellow, however one of the most peaceful African cichlids, the electric yellow is still much too aggressive for tropicals.

As for tank size, they need a tank of about 30 gallons (3 feet long), a sand substrate, many caves and a PH of about 7.8-8.4 for best results. They like to live in colonies of 4 or more and you could fit maybe. 6 in a 30g.

i have a 40g tank a 3ft just a little large than average, i reckon with rock structures and everything you could get about 8, so i think you can get aout 1 electric yellow for every 5g except wehn you have a massivce tank you can put a few more in
