Alright, this is sort of in relation to my post about stocking questions... Yesterday at a LFS near Houston we saw some emerald acaras. They were beautiful fish and we would have loved to build our new tank around 1 or more of them. However, noone there could tell me much - or really anything at all - about them. I came home and started searching online with no luck... Also, a friends cichlid book barely mentions them. Does anyone on here have any history with these fish and if so, could you tell me any relavent information about them?

Food requirements - temperment - fin nipper - schooling - diurnal/nocturnal - SIZE - I would love to redo my stocking plans for my new 29g around this fish *if* it were feasible...

Thanks!
Joey

i doubt it.

it sounds strikingly similar to the green terror/golden edge acara/goldsaum - some people list this as a different species (emerald acara), and some categorise it as a green terror.

green terrors get big. and nasty.

did they look anything like this :
[link=http://fishprofiles.com/interactive/photos/gallery.asp?id=rivulatus_profile]http://fishprofiles.com/interactive/photos/gallery.asp?id=rivulatus_profile" style="COLOR: #ffcc99[/link] ?

even if it is not the same species as the green terror, its probably a close relative, and probably equally nasty. My search on "emerald acara" lead me to more articles on green terrors than anything else.

more info here :

hope that helps somewhat.

I don't think those are the same thing that I'm thinking of, but I could be quite wrong. These were similarly shaped (and close to the green terror at Aquarium World in Houston) but were colored quite differently. They were mostly black/gray with blue (or dark green, but I thought they looked blue) markings on the face - almost the same color blue as neon tetras. These markings occured from behind the eyes down to below the jaw.

From what you describe it could be a blue acara. Though I dont think that any of the acaras would fit in a 29g
