I know that feeder goldfish are pretty much really bad for any type of fish being fw or sw. But do the same go for guppies even if you have them in their own established tank like a feeder tank. Or can mollies even be bred as feeders since they reproduce almost as fast as guppies?

I would really like to get my fish on frozen food but for now he just goes for live food. Any suggestions would be good.

what is so bad about feeder fish? just as you can rely on your breeder there should be no problem.

the only problem i see with feeders is if you only feed your fish feeders and the fish wont be able to get enough vitamins.

but i thought about doing the same thing with guppies.

its a great idea and you would know that all your fish are healthy.

so it is up to you.

The only real 'problem' I can see with giving feeder fish occasionally is that they are often diseased, or they have parasites, or both. Don't give your fish only live feeders/guppies, because they won't get everything they need to stay healthy. Give the fish a spirulina supplement, that will keep it in good condition.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

If you breed your own feeders, there shouldn't be a problem. From what I've seen, store feeders are often kept in terrible conditions, so they're often unhealthy and pass that on to your fish. I presume you keep your intended feeders in better condition, so it shouldn't be a problem. But I'd agree with the previous suggestion to not rely on feeders alone.

giving feeders to saltwater fish are different, as freshwater diseases cannot survive in saltwater in such a short period without proper acclimation, and vice cersa.

Giving feeders to fish isnt always the best idea. Grow your own feeders, it's alot better. Most of the proteins and amino acids found in fish though, are not 100% used.

If frozen food and live food are given, I think it'll be alright, though dry food help a bundle since most of the nessasary vitamins, proteins, etc are found in the food.

i feed my oscar rosyreds, guppies, hicari gold color enhancer, and hicari staple, if i throw some 20 feeders in with my oscar, they will last him a month, he will only eat them once in a while, but if i wait to feed him for 3 days so he can clear his system, he begs for food, so my oscar would rather have pellits than live.
but before he is fed them, they have to be quarintined for like a month or so ,if i got them from a store
