I recently bought three blue rams. I think I have two females and one male. Recently, the male has become very territorial and protective of the female. The female has a rosy mark on her side and is getting chubby. Blue rams are supposed to be difficult to breed. What's going on? Are they going to lay eggs?

I've got a fever... and the only prescription... is more cowbell!

My Blue Rams just bred on their own. They didn't care what the books said, they just got right down to business - not one, but two pairs, and that was all the pairs I had.

It was a community tank, and they got moderately territorial with other fish - only bothered them if they got within a few inches of the eggs - but other Rams weren't allowed within a foot of the eggs. If they do breed, I hope you have room for your lone female to get some distance from the breeding pair.

EDIT: Forgot to put down the conclusion! The eggs were all eaten, both times. Darkness in a community tank is hard on a breeding pair.

Yeah sounds like they are going to have eggs. my rams did it on thier own as well and were a bit aggresive towards the other fish.
