behaviourally, they have much more in common with angels and even larger gourami than with medium-large SA cichlids, so i think plants would be a good thing. nor do they dig, from what i've seen.

Festivums are usually plant safe. I have not seen them dig at or pick at plants, so I assume that they are not very interested in destroying flora.
