They may fight still. But your tank seems large enough, just make sure there are suitable territories on each end of the tank to please them both.

How big is the Firemouth and the Blue Acara?

They may squabble when they mature...

I had three that were about 6" in a 55 with a small school of black widow tetras and they were never aggressive but htey did have their pecking order amongst themselves.

If they are still an option when you have more money, they are definately one of my favorite fish. I would go for it.

I have had both ends of the spectrum. I had one that was so aggressive that it tried to kill everything in the aquarium, one that was pushy but not aggressive, and one that was the most docile fish I have ever had. Of all of the fish I have kept they seem to have the most wide range of behaviors. The firemouth I have now holds his own with an oscar and a JD 3 times his size. On a whole I would agree that they are pushy and territorial but not aggressive, but there is still the occassional fish that is just plain nasty.

Firemouths are rather pushy, and will fight for their territory...I would go with what is said above..
r u meaning when they bred or just normally speaking?
btw do they like being in pairs or are they best kept singularly? and would they make good tankmates with madagascan rainbows?
Thanx

-Dustin

--You must have an overly agressive Firemouth, what size tank are they in? If Firemouths are kept in large enough tanks they should do fine. To avoid territorial problems make sure to switch around the tank, so they have to re-establish what was once "their's"

My Firemouths are the bullies of the tank. They push around to 8" oscars and a 10" Pleco. If I had known that they we that aggresive I would have not put them in the tank.

mine become territorial when they breed... they wont go out of their way to go get rid of a fish.
they will stand their ground...
bascially i find mind not to be aggresive, with the exception of breeding as mentioned aove
