I'm new to this website and I'm about to start a 20 gallon tank and I really want an angelfish but I'm not sure what fish would be compatible with an angelfish. If anyone knows, I would also like to know how many gallons angelfish take up in a 20 gallon tank. I really don't want to get a fish that is crammed with way too many other fish. Thanks

Angelfish are really happy in a minimum tank size of 29 gallons. They grow tall, so need a tall tank. I wouldn't put one in a 20g. Most people say they need a tank atleast 18 inches tall (which would be a min. of 29g tall tank).

If you were to get a bigger tank, there are many fish that are compatible with angels. Most tetras, rasboras, cories, loaches, and rams are good to keep with angels.

I wouldn't put them with neon tetras though. They are the angels natural prey in the wild, and while it has been successfully done, I wouldn't try to keep the 2 together.

Hmm...your response was pretty much what I was expecting with the tank being too small but I read on a website that angelfish only needed a 20 gallon tank so i thought I'd check first. That's sad.
