Looks like some kind of Apistogramma. If it had the t bar on the lateral line it'd look just like a T-Bar Dwarf Cichlid.(Apistogrammoides Pucallpaensis) Could also be an Apistogramma Borelli of a different color or A. Gibbiceps though the head doesn't look exactly right.

No way is that an Apisto - too big, wrong shape, wrong finnage. My bet is it's a mbuna of some kind - Almazick, did you get it out of a "Mixed cichlid" tank or ... ?

A friend of mine gave me 55G tank and one fish so now I would like to add more fish but I don't know which one to buy African or S. American.

Melanochromis auratus, or a different species of the genus? They're highly aggressive mbuna, so make sure he's got space and lots of rocks. Good tankmates would be some more of the same species, although it's hard to add juvies in with a big male, and other tough mbuna.

Yep, it is Melanochromis auratus. I'll go to Pet's Mart tomorrow and I'll try to find something compartible to auratus. Any suggestions for planted tank?

What kind of suggestions? Is the Auratus in a planted tank? Because he'll be very happy to uproot the plants, I'm afraid.
