And this is him now. Tannins in water are washing out his nice blule color, he is still actually very blue, just like in the first picture.

Just thought I would share a little.

He looks to be about 8 inches, give or take an inch. In the picture he is near a full grown giant danio.

By the way, his home is a 125 gallon which he shares with 8 giant danios, 6 tiger barbs, 6 clown loaches, 1 convict and 3 syno cats.

Interesting! Your fish has a black dot in the middle of him. I'm not into cichlids, but recently bought some florida flag fish & they have dots in the middle of them too. I wonder if that dot is a random thing among different breeds of fish, or maybe the dotted ones are related somewhere down the line? I don't remember reading about the dots on fish before? lol
It's a strange subject, but I was just curious.

Thats a nice fish.

Lots of cichlids have that blue or black dot, lots of closely related species show that dot at one time or another, a whole load of related cichlids have it in most families. Flags are pretty far away from cichlids in the family tree, theyre probably closer to killies, but the spot is used for id purposes between species , and its an example of what is known as convergent evolution. Fish with similar communication strategies and environmental pressures all across the globe develop similar physical traits and morphology. A dot is simply display, and that has all sorts of advantages when in use. No wonder lots of fish have them.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. Thanks git!

Nice fish chris.........though I wouldn't want the cost of feeding that thing.

It really does not cost that much to feed him. He goes through a $10 container every 2-3 months, plus the almost daily feeding of brine shrimp or blood worms, though they are really for the other fish in the tank.

My cost of food would be higher but this guy is too picky. My oscar used to eat just about anything I threw in the tank, not this guy. He likes his pellets, though they must be sinking because he will not eat off the surface, and not much more. I can get him to take other foods like beef heart or larger shrimp and sometimes he takes a gulp or two brine shrimp but he does not go after other things like he does the pellets. Although I am not complaining, most people have the opposite problem where the fish likes the special foods but not the staple food.

Nice looking fish. It looks like he is in a live planted tank. Do you have any full tank shots? How does he do with the plants?

The only plnats in there are a few java fern and a clump of java moss. He is not to rough on plants but the green algae in my tank blankets everything I add to the tank.

I also have a new addition to the tank. I just put a 2.5 inch JD, hopefully the GT will leave him alone since he is about the same size as my convict and he does not mess with him.

I'll try to get some pics up latter.

Here is a pick of my new JD. He is being chased by my convict and the GT but he has some hiding places he can retreat to.
