Being hybrids, flowerhorns will have a much wider range of aggression even though most are extremely aggressive. However, when you take A. trimaculatus, A. festae, A. citrinellum, A. labiatum and H. cyanoguttatus and mix them all together...well it's not surprising that you come up with a highly aggressive fish.

I don't know if I'd rank them no. 1 but I'd definitely say they'd be in the top 10-15. It's really difficult to "rank" different species anyway as there will be a range in aggression from fish to fish. Also, tank size, diet, and tankmates will also make a huge difference in aggression.

I think Flowerhorn can't come close to Amphilophus zaliosus or A.labiatus or A.citrinellus when it comes to agression. But Flowerhorns are agressive but there does exists higher daredevils to Flowerhorns

Ehh, my friend gave me a flowerhorn. He said it was super aggressive, and killed off almost all the fish in his tank (pleco, blood parrot, convicts, and other stuff). I got it...by two days my red devil ripped it apart.

Yum, i guess its not that aggressive after all.

I think we should start measuring aggressivness pound for pound. Everyone thinks dovii are complete nuters and are the tuffest fish in the cichlid world but this is just because they are big. I have a fine example i put my syspilum in with my jd. They were the same size around 6'' and the JD beat up on the synspilum till he almost died but the tied turned as soon as the synspilum got a few inches on the JD and now the JD knows his place. So pound for pound the JD is more aggressive. The zeebs of africa would put it all over the big americans at the same size.

Go the Guppy!

I bet a swarm of Guppies would shred a Flowerhorn. Be much like being pecked to death by ducks i would suppose. Heh.

Flowerhorns are quite aggressive, but i must agree with Jason on this one.

Umbee has got to be the toughest. Look them up they are really "holy terrors" I've read stories where you need special made tanks (extra thick glass) because they will throw themselves at the glass trying to get to you as you enter the room.

This site covers a little on them

I'm not all up on the most aggressive fish thing, but my friend told me about Wolf Cichlids, they sound nasty, then I saw a pic of a Tigerfish/ Tiger Characin, that just looks plain evil, have you seen the teeth on it. have a look here http://www.jjphoto.dk/fish_archive/aquarium/hydrocynus_vittatus.htm

Well yeah it depends on the fish then... But i have had 6 wolf cichlids but they were never dominant to my flowerhorns The only one to conquer my flowerhorn would be the jaguar cichlid...

I got it...by two days my red devil ripped it apart.

Am I correct here in assuming the Red devil was already established in the tank before the flowerhorn was added? If so, this is why your devil got the better of the flowerhorn. Reverse the situation, let the flowerhorn be the established fish in the tank and introduce the red devil and chances are your devil is cowering in the corner.

But i have had 6 wolf cichlids but they were never dominant to my flowerhorns

How big were these wolf cichlids? Remember, they probably won't mature fully until they reach the 10-14" area, and this is when their true aggressiveness will come out. Put an 8" jag or flowerhorn with an 8" dovii and regardless of who was there first the dovii is toast. An 8" jag or flowerhorn would compare to a 16-20" dovii.

Umbee has got to be the toughest. Look them up they are really "holy terrors" I've read stories where you need special made tanks (extra thick glass) because they will throw themselves at the glass trying to get to you as you enter the room.

I've heard the same of P. dovii, P. managuense, P. motaguense, N. beani, A. citrinellum, A. labiatus, A. zaliosus (heard once this was the most aggressive of the red devil complex, but that opinion didn't include A. hogaboomorus or A. amarillo which are also included, I believe, in the complex).

Aggressiveness, in most cases, is relative to the fish's size, the tank size, how the fish was interacted with other fish at a young age, which fish was in the tank first etc. It is nearly impossible to decide which cichlid is the overall most aggressive.

I have a flowerhorn, and he is an awesome fish, he will follow your finger across the glass thinking he can attack you. Also, when I put in fish, he instantly attacks them. My roomate has a dovii and he is too small right now to be very agressive, plus dovii grow way to big!
