If they are mbuna, a low-protein, veggie-rich diet is necessary - spirulina or vegetable based flakes or pellets, supplemented where possible with fresh vegetables (mine love shelled peas and spinach). If haps, peacocks or Western riverine cichlids (like kribs and jewels), more protein is needed in the diet, so a good variety of different flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, bloodworms etc. is best.
