I acquired a 7 inch GT in very good health and paid a good sum for it too. He is absolutely adorable, but will only eat live food. Either feeder fish, which he completely gorges on, or worms. I managed to get him to try beef heart, but hubby was so happy watching him eat feeder guppies (my apologies to all guppy fans) that he got him some more.

What can I do to get him to accept pellets or beef heart???

well the first thing you need to do is tell your hubby to stop buying feeders, at least for the time being. I would stop feeding him any live or frozen food and start dropping a few pellets in a day. wait about an hour and if the pellets are still there then remove them from the tank. once the gt gets hungry enough he should start trying out the pellets and eventually eating them. of course, there is always the possibility that this fish has been raised on a diet of live food, and at 7" this guy is probably at least a year and a half to 2 years old. it may prove to be very difficult to get him onto prepared foods if he's lived his whole life of live foods. if you can get him onto frozen foods even, that might help both in getting him on pellets and saving a little bit of money.

also, if your hubby really likes feeding him live fish, tell him you need another tank () to set up some a breeding tank for feeders. a 20 gallon would be great to throw some guppies (quality guppies, not feeder ones) into and let them breed like crazy. once you get good numbers you can feed them to your gt once or twice a week as a treat. just make sure you feed the guppies really well.
