Hi peoples !

Wanted to post this before taking off for the long weekend.
I might be able to check in though, if not will check back on my return.

I have 4 german blue rams in a 40g breeder, 1m, 3 fm.
I have a pairing and hoping sometime they will breed.

I am curious if adding other fish to the tank would be a good idea or not, I hear if the gb rams get nervous of other fish, they will eat their eggs.

Considering a breeding pair (if I can find) of one of the following... But would it be good or bad idea ?

a) Bolivian Rams
b) Angelfish
c) Keyhole Cichlid

Please be experienced with these particular fish,
many thanks

Personally, I wouldn't add any more cichlids. The angelfish and Bolivian rams on your list are bolder than German rams, and may well interfere with breeding. I've never seen keyholes for sale, I have no idea about their behavior. They are supposedly shy, but I bet they're still capable of stressing the German rams enough so that the rams will not breed as they should. It is entirely possible that your rams will still propagate along with a pair of cichlids from your list, but it would be less likely.

I wouldn't add any fish in the tank, as you are trying to breed them. Just leave them on their own & hopefully they'll breed.

now the question is what are you going to do with the fry if you do not have other tanks to set up. when i was breeding kribs i had 2 pair and 6 tanks set up for for breeding and raising. your best bet is to make a nice community tank of fish you like and if the rams spawn and a few fry survive then hey, that's great. just my oppinion.

I have spare tanks and equip in case there is fry but I'd have to put in weird spots due to limited room, that and my landlord would freak LOL.

i had alot of fun breeding my fish but when the fry arrive you want to save them so you will end up setting up new tanks. if you wanted to set up 2 small tanks, like a 10 gallon, then you could raise up the fry and trade them to your local fish store for equipment but in the long run most of the money you get goes back into the belly's of your fry.
