Are you talking about the Rams or the Angels? I was talking about only one Angel.

Crabbers, Good choice on the Bolivian Rams. I just notice in by photo to Theresa M. The Bolivian Ram in the middle of the tank and the German Blue Ram on the right side of the tank.

Theresa_M : You probably right. Tanks sizes can be very misleading. Like I have 2 angels about 4-5" big (tail to nose) in a 2 Footer 24 x 12 x 14 17.45 gal - 66.05ltrs. They got on fine, plenty of room to swim in. It also depends on what other fish and also plants etc that is in the tank.

Maybe 6 guppies over 1" and a fair few babies. There are also 7 rasboras in there. Like I said Ive got a decent canister on it so it can handle the bioload. I think a pair of bolivian rams sound like the best option so far. What about aquascaping? Do they need a cave? Wood? real or fake plants?
I think gouramis and angels might get too large.

Gourmai grow longer than Angels. Exspecially the Blue 3 Spotted Gourmai.

I've read anywhere from 4 to 7" for potential length of blue gourami; 6" seems rather average for angels. So they may actually be similar lengths, the problems with angels is their height.

With Guppys a 20gal should be fine. How many Guppys have you got in that tank?
Guppys are top to med swimmers.

I personally think a 20g is too small for an angel, even one. They grow big quickly.

I've kept German rams with platies in my 29g for quite some time now, in a pH of 7.2-7.3 without any problems. If you'd really like to get them you should check what pH they're kept in at your lfs. They're very good at platy fry population control.

My blue gourami was a terrific fry-eater. When he died I replaced him with a paradise fish who does the job equally well. What you get also depends on how stocked the tank currently is.

In my 20G I have a serious guppy problem, I posted about it ages ago but no one really knew what to do. I was wondering:

A) Would a german blue ram go for guppy fry?
B) Is 20G too small?
C) Do they prefer to be in pairs or singles?

Ive gone a bit overkill on filtration so water quality is not an issue. The pH is at about 7.4, is that ok?
If not a Ram then what else would do the job of controlling my guppy pop?

Thanks!

That is no problems, but only one. Cause they grow big. I found if you get Angels too small, they get sickly and die.
I would try and get one around 1 1/2" any smaller and I found they don't survive. Good suggest with the Bolivian Rams. They are alot more hardy than the German Rams.

yeah they will be okey in a ph of 7.4 there ph range is 6.5 to about 7.7 so you will be okey in there they will be fine in there but make sure you get a male and female as if you get 2 males then they will fight so try and get 1m/1f or even 1m and 2f!

Malawi Freak, would the rams be ok in pH 7.4?
I like the idea of an angel, the tank is 13" tall, is that tall enough? I see what you mean about the adult guppies becoming food, I just want to remove some of the fry.

The trouble is the Guppys. Like I would have suggested Kribs. But a pair of these will not only eat the babys, but the adults as well, in that size tank.
How about Swordtails?, or one only Angelfish. Depending on how tall your tank is.
I've notice my Angels chasing fry, so they will kept the population down.

What about the Cockatoo dwarf cichlid?

Not too sure on these. Again being a cichlid they probably go after the adults as well. In one web site it says that Guppys are Kribs delicacy. Weather the Cockatoo has the same temperment, don't know, but they are similar fish.
See tankmates for Kribs.

Anything other then mollies? They are a bit too similar to guppies for my liking. I would prefer some sort of cichlid, or atleast something thats interesting to watch. Any suggestions?

EDIT: What about the Cockatoo dwarf cichlid?

^^^ Says they are used to medium-hard conditions

I would personally say no. German Blue Rams are not a hardy fish. They like a lower ph, and they have a short life span. Best kept in pairs. Tank size would not be a problem.

To kept your guppy fry down, I would get a couple of female mollys. Babys yum-yum] [/font]
