I would go with a trio of blue rams. They are gorgeaus and friendly. they are not large, but they will be very noticeable and not torture the other inhabitants.

If you'r after something a little bigger than rams then how about Rainbow cichlids "Heros multispinosus" ?

Nobody ever seems to mention them as peaceful cichlids but I've never had any sort of bother or aggression with my pair and they're in with all sorts of little fish and they can look really beautiful when they're happy

Any dwarf cichlid will be fine. Also, I might try a small jellybean parrot.

Rams, Angels, Kribensis & Yellow Labs are the most "peaceful" of Cichlids.

What fish you can have really depends on the fish already in there. Some dwarf chichlids might even be too fragile for a community. The checkerboard chichlids comes to mind.

How about a severum or 2? Or maybe a trio of keyholes?

Pair of firemouths would work well too
