I am doing an Asian themed 29 gallon tank and saw the Orange Chromide at my LFS and decided to get one. It was definitely an impulse buy even though i did know they were one of the few Cichlids that inhabits Asia. Will one Chromide do ok with 3 Tiger Barbs and 4 Rosy Barbs? Should i have gotten more than one? He/she was in with Tigers at the LFS and they seemed to be fine together. Also i just read that salt should be put into the aquarium since they like brackish water. Should i do this? Will the other fish be safe? Hope someone can answer my questions. Thanks.

you'd probably be better off keeping the chromide with some mollies. mollies would be much better off in a brackish tank than barbs, which are a pure freshwater fish.

one thing though, if the lfs where you bought the chromide had been keeping them in freshwater, then I'd slowly raise up the salinity. for puffers, it's usually recommended to raise the salinity 0.002 per week, though I'm sure chromides are much hardier than puffers. still, just to be safe I'd raise the salinity slowly.
