My green terror is acting like most fish do when they are harassed by other fish - he's hiding and he only comes out to eat. The only problem is, he's the only fish in the aquarium! He doesn't look sick, but something must be wrong for him to be doing this. I noticed it about a week ago.

I would post my tank par., but it's almost time for me to go to work (got to love graveyard shifts!), and tomorrow is the day I do my weekly water changes anyway.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be apperciated.

It could be that he is not use to the tank, after a while he will roam the open plain like a king. I have a pair of GT female 5" and male 4" and they breed often. They are the most active fish in the tank.

how big is the green terror and how big is the tank? I'm guessing the tank is rather large (55 or bigger) and the green terror is very small (2"ish). If the GT is just a juvie in a big open tank then it's probably scared there's a large predator around since there's nothing else out and about. this type of "fear" can stress juvie cichlids possibly to the point of death. If I'm right then I'd go out and buy a few small fish or if you have another tank with some top dwelling fish then move them over to the GT tank until the GT puts gets a bit bigger. Then you can move the dither fish back to their original tank. If you don't have another tank then maybe just buy a few zebra danios or something similar. That's also an excuse later on for getting another tank.

Yeah. My green terror is about 3 1/2 inches now, and it's alone in the 50 gallon. I have a 29 that I needed an excuse to set up, so I might place some fish in with him and then do what you said and move them out later.

It might also solve my problems of, "That fish isn't that big! Why won't you buy other ones to put in with it?!" Just wait a few more months. Then when they begin to mysteriously vanish you'll know why, mom!
