i got a baby vieja fenestratus and he dosnt seem to be doing very well. Hes about 3.5cm and is in a 20g tank with 3 sajicas the same size. he was fine when i put him in swiming around quite normaly but later this afternoon he was at the top with his nose towards the surface in a verticle position. i did a water change 3 days ago and the water is slightly alkaline. the only other thing that i can think of is that i treated my sarjicas with fungus aid and melafix today would this hav caused any probs??? i put him in a net breeder so the others couldnt attack him and he swam around normal for a while and then when i checked back he was back in the same position??? any ideas???

Put him in a hospital tank by himself for a while. Hopefully he'll get better in there.

did you acclimate him properly to the tank or just put him in there? was the water temp the same? the melafix is good to use when adding fish. i am more incline to believe you shocked him a little.

Usually if it's a swim bladder problem the fish will be at an angle with it's head pointed toward the bottom of the tank not the top. Does the fish seem to be gasping for air at the top of the surface?
