Scientific Name: Acarichthys heckelii
Common Name: Thread-Finned Cichlid, Thread-Finned Acara

It is really a neat looking fish and I was wondering if anyone here has heard of or ever kept one of these fish. I found it in one of my aquarium books and thought it looked a bit like the Bolivian ram. So i searched it on the internet and came across this site

So that's what it looks like and those are some of there specs.

I forget how to add a profile now of course:%)

[edit] nevermind it has a profile

Yeah, I've seen them before at work. A co-worker told me that they were from the Mikrogeophagus genus, so I guess you aren't the only one who thinks they look like rams. They are pretty hardy fish and do have some color, but I don't like them as much as rams.

They are not a very common fish are they? How big do they get? One site said 5" the other 8". What is their agression?

Apparently they are pretty agressive, and the book I have, which I have found reliable, says they get about 5 1/2 inches long. They are VERY similair to Rams apparently. They have same behavioural habits and you sex them almost the same as Bolivian Rams (males have longer filaments in their fins and such)
