I was thinking 4 in my 75 gallon because I get a better deal if I purchase that many. Tank dimensions are your standard 75: 4'x18"x20" or something along those lines... I can't remember exactly. The tank is moderately planted but as I eventually get into C02 it will probably become heavily planted. I have an eheim 2026 canister filter keeping the water crystal clear.

Tank mates include:
-10 adult guppies
-uncountable number of guppy fry (i'm planning to use the angels as fry control since nothing else seems to be eating them )
-8 black neons
-2 opaline gouramis (still small at the moment, less then 2" )
-4 silver hatchetfish
-2 amano shrimp, 1 bamboo/Singapore wood shrimp, and some number of smaller ghost shrimp
-6 cories (I would like to have some room in my final stock list to flesh this number out more. Same goes for the hatchetfish since those 4 were all the LFS had left.)

I also plan to get a pair of wild blue rams and with this angelfish purchase I get a trio of Apistogramma borelli.

Opinions? If I'm overdoing it I could cut the four down to two but I'd really like to go for the better deal if this is ok. And please don't give me the spiel on how angels will eat the neons. These neons are fully grown and are a decent size. Plus, these angels are only quarter size at the moment and I'm trying this out with the hope that if all these fish are raised together the angels won't try to make a snack of them as they grow (except the fry but that's a good thing!!)

With what you are planning you would probably be overstocked by not by a huge amount. The problem might be solved for you once the Angels grow. Neons make a wonderful snack food and since they will be used to live food in the form of guppy fry I bet the neons disappear.

One other thing to consider is that you would likely end up with a breeding pair of Angels and when they spawn they get cranky. Although in a 75 the other fish ought to be able to stay out of their way.

Have fun, Mike

Yea that's true about the breeding pair. I think I'll stick with two... the rams and apistos are enough cranky cichlids. I change 20% of this tank's water every Sunday and Thursday and do an extensive gravel vac on Thurs so if I'm coming close to overstocking I'm not too worried. Just gotta watch out for the angel/neon thing.

You can have 2 & hope that they'll breed. You are also getting some Rams & they are beautiful aswell. Keep up the good work.

Angels will hunt down and eliminate any fry in your tank within days, except if you have many hidding places. Also the neons will follow once the angels grow a bit. It doesn't matter if they all grow up together, once the angels are big enough to eat the neons, they'll gladly do it!. Oh and they might also eat the guppies. I've had an angel in the past with a great appetite for guppies...

I've researched this quite a bit and so far the majority of experiences I've read on FP says otherwise. That's ok about the fry tho. I have entirely too many as it is.

I would be careful of the neon/angel combo, as I have experienced first hand the angels appetite for neons. I had 8 neons in my 55 gal, along with some swordtails. I put in two angels and within 4 days all the neons were gone So just be careful of the combo and watch them close as they will eat them.
