I went and bought two of these, and they were labelled Banded Cichlids in the LFS, however, when I look up Banded cichlids in FP, and on Google, they show up as Green Severums. I have seen Green Severums and they look quite different.

Here is a picture of the little fellow:

I know its not very clear, but I only have a camera phone, so please help. I think it looks a bit like the black convict, but I am not sure.

Thanks,
Clowny

Okay, mine looks a lot like this, but I am not so sure. Both have the orange underbellies, so I may have ended up with two females like the description on this page.

Can somebody confirm this for me???

what size is the tank? unless it's a very large tank then no don't add a male convict. adding a male will ensure a breeding pair which will cause chaos in the tank.

About 6 inches I have heard at max size, though its the first time I am keeping them. And oh, contrary to all good advice, I went and I did it, I got me a male.

The two nasty ladies are giving him a hard time ATM

i wouldnt get a male.... i have a breeding pair of cons and they'll fill your tank quick with young espcially if you have two females..... also they are real aggressive when breeding
