Hi! This weekend I was able to secure two beautiful medium sized altum angelfish!

If anyone has any suggestions regarding the care of this type of angelfish please let me know!

AWESOME! i'm tryin to talk my aunt who just moved into a new house into putting in a big tall tank and some altums :-D

she likes the idea of a fish tank because her kids would LOVE it and they have a good spot for it so im like "you need to get a really big one or else you will summon the apocalyps!!"

Very nice, altums aren't easy to find. How large are they? Do you have any similarly sized angelfish? I think it would be fun to compare the growth rates and sizes of the altum and P. scalare angelfish, as a mini-experiment or something.

I do have another angelfish in there too, it is gold colored, I am unsure of what type it is. They were kinda expensive... They are medium size, one is about 3 inches long, the other about 4".
We are currently working on lowering the pH as I have heard they need lower pH than regular angelfish, has anyone else heard this also?

yes they do, but after a while they will acclimate to a somewhat higher ph, i used to keep 4 ( in st louis) wih my ph at 7.0 -7.2. just make sure you keep the water and the substrate clean.

Contact the guy or store you got them from and see in what pH they were raised. It is best to give them a pH they are used to.

WOW! I was able to secure 5 more from another shop! They were cheap too. Also, at a garage sale today they sold me a 55g for $25!!! So far they are doing well...
