Hey
I have this little african fish and I'm not sure what it is...It's not fluro enough to be an electric yellow..
At first i thought it was a lombardi coz its got faint stripes which sometimes get darker but its been yellow ever since I had it from really small and I'm under the impression lombardis only turn yellow when they become a certain size..or reach maturity i should say.
Now it seems to be turning slightly blueish though and it's getting a bit of black on its top and bottom fins..
Anyone have some idea what it might be?
I have some pics but I cant post coz im not a premium member so maybe I can email them if someone wants a look see..

cheers

I'm not sure myself, I have zero hands on experience with Africans other than Kribs...

So far as the pics go though, have a look at this thread http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/The%20Recovery%20Room/32301.html?200403032150

It might speed up identification for the smart folks here abouts

From what you've described, it looks like you have a Pseudotropheus Saulosi. The fry and juveniles start off yellowish/orange and the males turn blue with black stipes as well as the fins and tail. If it is, then you have a male Saulosi.

Here's a picture of a male and female.

Cheers guys

Yeah looks like it's a male Saulosi...looks very similar to all the pics I've seen on the net. Not sure what else it could be...

Thanks for that

There a few mbuna with yellow females and blue males, where most juvis start out yellow and the males turn blue as they mature. Saulosi is one, as has been suggested, johannii are another. Have a look at a few pics as the fish's colour becomes more apparent, but I agree that most likely you have a male saulosi.
