I want to do some cichlids. Now. this will be in a 55 gallon, i have rocks on the bottom for which they can claim their territories. I would like some fish of decent size.. but not huge so i can only have like 1 or 2. Also.. i have a pair of sizeable angels... are there any semi agressive chichs that i can keep with my angels??? Help me please as this change will be taking place on Sunday! thanks everyone! ![]() ![]() 72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up 75 gallon: A. I have purchased 3 juvinile firemouths.. with plenty of hiding spots. I have not removed any of the fish that already exist there. 2 angels....9 platties.. 1 otto..5 corys. So far all is well.. no fights cept between the little firemouths when they see eachother now and then. Any other suggestions??? Of cichlids that I can add? 72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up 75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair) |

I have edited out the entire incident...let's keep this civil and peaceful and help Tanya stock her tank. Now, Tanya, I wouldn't add anything else. Once these fish grow up your tank will be pretty stocked...especially if you wind up with a pair of firemouths. Should this happen your angels may wind up taking a beating. I would still consider moving them to a different tank as this would greatly expand your stocking options. Also, you asked why we recommended you remove the crushed coral substrate. Crushed coral is commonly used in Rift Lake African cichlid tanks because the coral increases the hardness and pH of the water I believe. With the fish you're keeping, you don't want your pH going any higher than it already is because these fish generally prefer a lower pH. Switching out the crushed coral for regular substrate will keep the water at a more comfortable level for your current fish. If the pH gets too high the fish might become stressed which would leave them susceptible to diseases. ![]() |
