I have a 55 gallon with six buenas aires tetras, two kribs (a pair, except no spawning yet), six tiger barbs, and one severum (about 3.5inches now). Is this over-stocked, or have the potential to be? Everything seems fine.
Our other tank is a 30 gallon with a pair of convicts. I could possibly put, say, my tiger barbs in that tank if you all think my 55 is over-stocked.
New and insecure with the fish hobby thing....so any help would be appreciated greatly!

I dont think your 55g is overstocked.
It seems fine.
The severum is pushin it a bit, however,
they are usually peaceful fish, and a 55g is
sufficient in size.
The only possible problem i could see is with the kribs.
They are african fish and really shouldnt be outside of an all african setup. Way way too aggressive for my liking,
though they are a gorgeous fish.
BUT all the other fish in there
are tough enough to possibly avoid death by kribensis.
The severum is not as tough as the kribs, but hopefully will grow faster than their aggression does.
You should be fine.
Buenos Aires Tetras are awesome when full grown in a school.

Beware of the Kribensis & if they start breeding, move them to another tank. They will chase any fish that comes near their spawning place.

I had a Severum, a school of cories, and a school of tetras together in a 55 gallon with a breeding pair of kribs.

The kribs were fine and they bred and none of my fish were hurt...they only scared the fish away from their cave that they spawned in and did not pursue them. The severum is probably going to be ok in a 55 gallon, mine was a little over half his adult size and he had a good ammount of room left.

So i say it's ok, but if your kribs are a bit overly agressive, then it would probably be best to remove them.

Okay, I moved the kribs, and the tiger barbs to another tank, a 30 gallon, that I had been cycling and had been saving for some africans maybe. But at least the 55 gallon should be okay now....maybe a bit understocked with just the green severum and the BA tetras?
Anyway, thanks to all for all the great advice!

I had kribs in a comunity tank "pair" and they never touched anyone. But I agree watch out if they breed they can get agressive.
