I have over 100 JD fry. They just hatched today. Right now the male is very possesive and keeping the female away from them. Should I move the parents or keep them with the fry?

I am assuming that you mean Jack Dempsey when you say JD. If so, the parents should be kept with the fry.

how big is the tank? that's kind of odd...it's usually the female who becomes much more possessive and won't let the male near the eggs. If you remove one of the parents then remove the male. I'd leave them both for a couple of days though and see how they do.

These fish came from a fish rescue and are in a 25 gallon QT tank by themselves. The male is a 4 inch juvie and the female is his mother, an adult female. They are very photo sensitive and have some fungal issues but are getting better. They will be going to auction in 3 weeks health permitting. I will keep a watch on them and can move the parents if I see trouble.

Thanks guys
