Well, in previous weeks.. I have lost some cichlids in my tank..be it survival of the fittest or not..im just curious.. are juvinile firemouths just relentless for killing or not? The occupants of this tank are in my profile. i lost a juvi livingstonii, and a male peacock that was the same size as the firemouths... whats up with that?

72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up
75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

no, not usually. firemouths are typically not considered to be too aggressive. you may come across a nasty little guy but for the most part they're pretty agreeable in a large enough tank.

imo, you need to either get rid of the firemouths or the other cichlids in the tank as the rest are african cichlids. generally it's not recommended to mix african and american cichlids. the jewels will likely be ok with the firemouths but the rest should be kept in a different setup.

I agree with Jason. But, as for the culprit, and not knowing the size of your fish and such, I would consider the Blue Johanni as one of the most aggressive fish around.

I had two juvenile firemouths, and after a week or so in the same tank one killed the other by chasing it constantly until it wouldn't eat. Since that happened it is almost entirely placid. It is a year on, and it hardly bothers any ofg the other fiash at all, of which tiger barbs are the toughest.
I think nfiremouths are generally reckoned to be one of the more peaceful cihlids, for size at least. At least towards other species. I would be suerprised if it was your firemouths doing the damage.
