Hi everyone,
I am just starting out with this whole Cichlid obsession and have a question regarding water chemistry (never my favourite topic at school!).

I have an 82 gallon tank which I intend to fill with Cichlids from the Lake Malawi region. I have filled this tank with fine river rock substrate and rocks obtained from my LFS. My current parameters are Ph 6.2, KH 17.9 ppm and GH > 200 ppm. I would like to increase my Ph and KH to better suit my future Malawi friends. Any suggestions as to what I add to my water to assist with this water buffering?

Thanks for your help

A good buffer would be a good amount of Lace rock, being volcanic in nature it will raise your ph level naturally, any checmical additive like "ph right" or something does work but common side effects is diatom algae as uses phosphates to increase the ph levels.

I would suggest looking into a type of volcanic rock, Lace rock or red lava rock.
