I was just sitting here admiring my new tank with my new Kribs in it, and I noticed one doing this weird half curled up, vibrating dance. I've heard that Kribs and all Cichlids for that matter have quite unusual behavior, but is this normal? Is he just "marking" his territory or something? Thank in advance.

Sounds like normal prespawning display behavior to me. He was likely showing off to a female.

5 of them in a 55 gallon. Is it possible he mistook another male for a female? I intentionally got all males.

Yes, it is possible that you have 4 males & a female & it was some mating behaviour.

What I meant was, is it possible the Krib thought one of the other males was a female?

If you are 100% sure that they are all males, then i really don't know.

my kribs could tell the difference between the males and females but there was deffinately males and females in the tank. So you could have some females in the tank, do any of them have black circles in there dorsal fins?

When raising my batches of Kribs, I noticed my males would flare/shake at each other. It could depend on how old yours are, as to what exactly they are doing.

As for "spots on the fins", you can't sex them that way, sorry. I've never owned a male with spotted fins, but all my females have them. However, I've seen MANY males with spots, so it just doesn't work.

The easiest way I've found to sex them, even at 3 months old, is to look at the very top back of the dorsal fin. Females will have no color on the end, it will be clear and rounded off. Males WILL have color all the way to the tip of the top of the dorsal fin, even at a young age and before the fin lengthens and is obviously pointed.

If you have 5 males in a 50g, be ready for some aggression. Although I've never had any problem with a single male in a tank, having multiple males could be a problem??? That's just a warning, as I've never kept adult males together, so I could be wrong on that one

Anyway, I hope some of my rambling helps

Red on belly is a billboard for "lez git it own"

The shimmer behaviour is "man, am I gorgeous! Saw your billboard. How 'bout it?"
