Wingsdlc Fish Guru What is this? Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 | Nice fish! I really miss my Kribs. I want to add a dwarf cichlid but I think my baby BN and shrimp would have problems. 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

They're too cute for me to add a male unless they break-up on their own: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3182/2433333726_52a202be0e_b.jpg |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | So far I have seen no nastiness to other fish, unless its their own kind. The female seems to know to be not bossy with little corys but if the female betta comes down for a sticky beak she gets a very stern look. Its enough to send her back up to the mid to top areas of the tank. The otos seem to be largely ignored by the kribs. I have this pair in the 3ft tank with plecs, cories, glasscats, otos, and betta. I had a photo of the krib swimming around the bn's as they ate their cucumber but I deleted it. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | We have kids! My kribensis got really nasty in the plec tank and even the big bn male got bit for sitting on a log beside the cave so I moved them. The female was in a bottle cave, so I just lifted it out with her inside. Good thing I did too cause when I put it into another tank of their own, it was full of babies! Today dad is baby sitting and mum seems to have been driven off and is hiding. Here's just one pic, but log onto the link underneath for 10 shots including a macro shot of a fry. http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd85/Brengun_photos/Kribensis/ |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | Hi Brandeeno, sorry I kept missing you in chat. I have no idea what I am going to do with the fry. There are a lot of them. I will have to find a spare tank, somewhere. |

Gourami Mega Fish Posts: 1205 Kudos: 477 Votes: 1 Registered: 23-Apr-2002 | Reply for Big E: Those two kribs of yours are both females. Thats why they are both so colorful and have such short fins. Its actually not that uncommon for two females to pair up. You see alot in angelfish. |

Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | So the second day out of the fry, dad has finally allowed mum back with the fry. I am not sure why he got so all fired protective at the outset. I am dropping in microworm, artemia cysts (since I am hopeless at hatching baby brine shrimp), and crushed cichlid pellets. I don't know if they are eating them or not but at least I'm doing my bit. |

Big E Fish Addict Posts: 606 Kudos: 382 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Feb-2001 | Yeah Gourami - I know they're both female, but they were cute...until the dominant female finally "broke-up" with the other female. I went back to the LFS and bought the male who had been hiding in the tank when I bought the two females. Right away, the dominant female and him were side by side and have been since he was added to the tank. Brengun - new parents can be funny...maybe next time the male will be driven away at fist. You just never know. Eric |

Big E Fish Addict Posts: 606 Kudos: 382 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Feb-2001 | Regarding the two females pairing up...they don't hatch their eggs - they just guard them for a long time until they eat them because they're obviously bad, they do this about 3 times, then the dominant female drives the other female away because she has finally realized it's not male. I now have a male in with the two females. I'm pretty sure I have a batch of fry in there from the pair (in a cave right now)...the poor unpaired female is now officially a target fish - although she has not been hurt she is chased away a lot. Big E Fish Addict Posts: 606 Kudos: 382 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Feb-2001 | HOKESE - Fear not, I finally caught the poor girl and took her into my LFS where she will hopefully go to someone with a better situation. My tank is heavily planted (as in you can't see the fish if they're not in the front half of the tank, and even then it takes some looking!), and it took me all this time to be able to catch her without destroying the plants and the tank set up. FWIW - Fry are now free swimming and the parents, for first time parents, are amazingly good. Eric |
