rams aren't hard to keep, i've got a ph of 7.6 or so and i do a water change of 20% weekly. I honestly thing keyholes and rams must be more closely related than simply being cichlids because the behaviour sounds allmost the same, and their shape is very simmilar.

Well I can only imagine you have been lucky to get a peaceful pair. My experience was a lot different. Maybe you were lucky or I was just unlucky who knows. I know I wont touch those fish again that's for sure.

My Kribensis stay with 2 corys in a 10l tank and the Cory has got no fin damaged.

Blue/Gold/Opaline/3 Spot/Lavender Gouramies can all get nasty towards other fish.
Pearls are very docile. The only thing I've ever seen then react to was each other..and never badly. Even males, like the profile here says, at worst, don't do harm to each other.
A trio is better than a pair, imho..just so the male has two females to divide his attention between instead of possibly over pestering just a single female. I'm about to do 6 females and 2 males in my 6ft long tank..with maturity and good lighting they are absolutely beautiful fish.

Good idea. The Danios are great fish. Zippy and fun to watch. Be careful of the Opaline Gourami though, they can be aggressive to other Gouramis. They don't seem to have the same temperment as the Pearl Gouramis. I would grab another Pearl Gourami. Have male & female. My in-laws have a pair and they are beautiful to watch when they are mating/spawning. Unfortunately in her 6 foot, nothing became of the spawning.

Thanks for that TigerAngel but I have now at long last made my mind up and decided to play it real safe and I have been out today and brought 6 leopard danios and 6 zebra danios they look great all zipping about in between the logs and rocks and get on great with all my other fish I did think I might be able to just squeeze in an Opaline Gourami but I will leave it a while to see the tank looks pretty well stocked to me now though although there is just enough room on the bottom there for me corys when I can afford them.

Well it is a 4 foot tank which
measures
120cm x 40cm x 40cm
holding
192 Litres
42.24 UK Gallons
50.73 US Gallons
and is full of caves and hide holes with 1 pleco 3 blue rainbow fish 3 red tail banded rainbow 6 congo tetra 1 pearl gourami 1 gold gourami and 1 silver gourami and to finish the stock I was going to get some corys and 2 keyholes but the shop I went to did not have any keyholes so I got the Kribensis instead and as you see I wish I hadn't now. I really wanted the keyholes to be honest but the Kribensis have put me right off now and I am unsure what to go for now. To play it safe its either another bigger gourami but not as big as the snakeskin or 3 more rainbows or if I get enough info on the keyholes take the risk and get them.

how big of a tank are you running? if its 20 gal or less I'de say a few guppies would look nice as top swimmers, assuming cory's are all you've got in there. Also you could do a school of gold barbs or something.

Oh yes they do look nice but I am kinda scared now of making the same mistake as I did with the Kribensis so I was thinking maybe play it safe and go for 3 red rainbow fish to go with the 3 blues and 3 red tailed banded still very on sure what to do at the moment I really had me heart set on those keyholes but I will keep looking until I come up with something but what ever it be it has to be none nipping and get on with corys.

rams in the pet store will look ugly, no color to them because of stress. Get them home, feed them bloodworms and flake food, give it a week or two, and they'll look like this: http://www.dewinters.nl/images/apistogramma%20ramirezi.JPG

Oh my god guys I think I have just made a big mistake? I have just read that Kribensis don't tolerate other bottom fish and will fin nip corys? I brought 2 of these fish yesterday but I planed on getting around 12 corys in the next few weeks will I still be safe to do so or is what I read true?

well keyholes are completly peaceful and will not nip or chase your corys.

I have both and I've never seen the keyholes nip at anything but other keyholes just to show dominance, no harm done

well keyholes are completly peaceful and will not nip or chase your corys. and as for bolivain rams..the only time i've seen them be aggresive was at the LFS..one was attacking a fancy guppy's tail. other than that moment they are also really peaceful. and i don't know much about blue rams

keyholes are just ugly rams IMO, if you want some good color, go with rams. I keep my 3 with a school of tetras etc. and they don't bother anything very much unless its feeding time, and even then i haven't seen a fin nipped yet.

Opps maybe not LOL I just discovered how big they get so if anyone has any info on keyholes I would be most grateful. I mostly need to know if they get on with my other fish and whether they tend to be nippy or aggressive and if they will be ok with corys?

I was just thinking actually maybe since I already have 3 bigger Gouramies perhaps I would be better to get a snakeskin Gouramie instead of two keyholes?

Well the Kribensis have now gone to a friend with a 6 foot tank. I need more info on the keyholes though before I decide whether to get them or not. Are they suited to the fish I already have and do they nip or get violent? any info on them would be great many thanks. Now I am clear to get those corys that's if the keyholes get on with them? That is. If not then no keyholes.
