![]() | Kribs and Rams breed in the same tank? |
Mike R![]() Fish Addict Posts: 593 Kudos: 830 Votes: 322 Registered: 27-Jul-2004 ![]() ![]() | I just got a pair of Kribs. I'm setting up a 29 with a sand substrate and want to add a pair of Rams. Is there enough room for them both to spawn? If not, will either spawn in a community tank with some livebearers and cories? Thanks, Mike [span class="edited"][Edited by Mike R 2004-08-04 15:37][/span] |

Do a femal krib on her own, and keep the rams all male and you'll be fine. Just make sure you add the rams at the same time,a nd make sure they are all the same size, and be prepared for a lot of bluff charging, maybe even a nip or two for the first week or so on the part of the rams. |

Are they more aggressive than Angels when they breed? I've had Angels spawn in community tanks and nobody got hurt. They got chased off sure but not injured. Thanks, Mike |

There will be some chasing when they'll spawn, but hopefully nothing more serious. ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Just keep in mind that in a community tank, some, if not all, of the eggs or fry will eventually be eaten. If you truly want to raise fry to adulthood, it's best to breed in a tank dedicated for that purpose. The odds of fry surviving would be higher with Kribs in your community, but that would also increase the odds of losing your other fish from attacks by the Kribs when they are in parenting mode. I've got a couple of 10s stacked so I could siphon out some of the fry if I put the rams in a comunnity. What, if anything, do you guys think could go with a pair of Kribs in parenting mode? Thanks, Mike |

Krib breeding is NOT something to be done in a tank with any other fish in it. (Other than that, it's incredibly easy.) |

Has anyone heard of a cichlid that can spawn in a community tank without some sort of mass murder occuring? I haven't yet personaly ![]() |

The body of my largest angel is about 3.5" but the fins make him 8" tall. I have a male veil tail leopard that is only 2" in the body but has 3" of fin top and bottom so he is also 8" tall. I've heard of them getting bigger like 12" tall but never seen one that big. Thanks again for the advice, Mike |

They're pretty relaxed about guarding the eggs, so not too many survive in a community set up. |
