How many Labs do you have? I would get either one or three depending on how many labs you have in that tank. Pictus can be aggressive but that should'nt be a problem for the labs at all, just make sure oyu have enough caves and i think it would work out pretty good.

Well in that case i would only go with 1. But i think you should stick with the 10 labs b/c that will look awsome. You could even go with some Emerald cories if you like instead.

I don't know, they come from drastically different water conditions. What would really be good, though, would be some upside-down cats. Most of the syndontis family would work well.

The upside down catfish idea is an awsome one, but i have kept pictus with africans before, but the upside down catfish are way better.

Why is it that when people think of synodontis, they presume them to thrive in hard, alkalinic water? The fact of the matter is UDCats are riverine species, living in a soft and acidic enviornment. If a pictus won't do, then a UDC surely wont. Furthermore, they are quite shy and even docile Africans such as labs may be tempted to pick at them. Multis, petris, and pollis are far better options.

I agree with Cup. Although I have kept Pictus with Mbuna before, it is not optimal. Go with Syno Multipunctatus as they look kinda like the Pictus, but WILL actually schoal together unlike the Pictus. I'd stick with 3 as your tank is not that big. Great color contrast with the yellow/black and white/black. Who knows? You might even get cat fry out of the labs eventually.
