Ok -- Here is the story, about 18 months ago I got the fish bug when I picked up a cheap 72"x18"x18"setup. Like al newbies I was taken in by my LFS who told me get a few of these and a few of these etc etc. So I have ended up with a Fabulous( and wildly overstocked) community tank.
I figured out pretty quickly( after finding this great site) that whilst it looked cool, it was not fair on my poor fish & that as tey grew, so would my troubles.
The good news is ... I bought a new bigger tank last week (72x24x28 = 210US gal) and it is nearly ready for stocking.
I will tell you what I am going to put in it, can you please advise on what else can go into it in the Medium to long term?
The Centrepiece is to be a Ghost knife ( currently about 7"long) also 3 fullgrown Angels, 3 Balas ( 8", 6" & 5" 1 rainbow(3" &2x BNC's ( 1"
Suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated.... Thanks

if it were me I'd put a pair of ghosts in there. your tank is plenty big enough for two and they would enjoy the company. also if it were me i'd put a meduim sized school of black skirts in there say around a dozen or so. i think watching a shoal of fish swim together is pretty cool

I'd get a full-size sailfin plec for a tank that size. Having a BGK and balas means you're pretty much restricted to fairly peaceful fish. I'd have a go at tracking down some Uaru, which i think are underrated gentle cichlids.
then
a pair of festive cichlids (not festae )
pair of blue gouramis
a leopard bushfish
a pair of gymogeophagus balzani
15 botia striata
5 siamese algae eaters
6 spanner barbs
12 congo tetra

and up the rainbow school to 10 or 12

is it a planted tank?

I was thinking maybe an Elephant nose rather than a second BGK.
Couldn't find any reference to "green horse faces"
Tank will be partially planted & yes I was looking for peaceful/non-aggressive fish

green horse faces are satanoperca jurupari. From what i've seen they cost about $30-$40 bucks each. And they look pretty cool

I think you are not supposed to mix different morymyid (sp?) fish together, but I would be thinking a 210g tank would be large enough to accomodate.
I could recommend Buenos Aires tetra, very active, vibrantly colored with silver flashy bodies, and red and black fins with a box pattern. They get about 3 inches in length, females noticeably larger. Would look great with the black and white of the Ghost knife. I have found them to be quite peaceful, and not at all nippy once they got out of the "teenage" stage.
Another option, a fish I have always wanted to keep, is the Chinese Hi Fin Banded Shark (Myxocyprinus asiaticus). They are such an awesome fish, change dramatically through 3 different stages as they age, and reach a stunning 18 inches or so in length. (depending of course on tank conditions)
Heres a pic:

Very peaceful, I believe they mostly eat algae, and are non threatening except to the smallest fish perhaps.
You could always trade it in if it got too big. Sweet fish.

severums, uarus, chocolate cichlids, nicaraguan cichlids, and blue acaras are a few relatively peaceful new world cichlids that might work in your setup.
