Some good alternative live food would be earthworms. They are very nutrious and relatively clean compared to feeder fish. You could feed him frozen krill to brighten up any reds on him and some spirulina to introduce some plant matter into his diet. |

Oscars do not require live foods, like some fish will. You can continue the diet you are feeding him now for the rest of his life. He will accept flakes and pellets without problem. Some problems with feeding live feeders; the main one is the fact that you are introducing live fish into his envrironment on a regular basis. There is a large number of diseases and parasites that you could be introducing to him on that regular basis. And once started on live feeders for very long, it is hard to break them off of them. Sometimes they won't go back to eating anything else. Another problem is, in the future, if you ever want to add any other fish to the tank, they can only be done by adding very large ones. As he will think anything that fits into his mouth is food. HTH.... There is always a bigger fish... |
