I have a full grown Male Auratus, he's black and purple...along with a female convict (her mate fell ill and died suddenly) Any ideas on what I can try to populate my tank with? I am looking for maybe just one more fish...I may adopt my female convict to a cousin who is starting a tank of her own. Let me know what you think, thanks all!

First of all, what size is the tank? Auratus need a pretty big tank, they are one of the most aggressive fish out there! They also shouldn't be kept with American cichlids like convicts, there are a lot of differences in ph requirements, dietary requirements, behaviour, aggression etc.

Currently they are in a 20 gallon tank but I'm saving up to go bigger. The Auratus is about 4.5 inchs long, the female convict is just over an inch. They've been together for almost 2 years and never had a problem. They used to have a Crawfish that I had for 3.5 years, he was well over 5 inches long but died of old age a few months ago. The big guy can be aggressive but its never fatal, I think he gets bored. The small convict chases him around just as much. He loves playing in the bubble screen though..a real cool fish, lots of personality. When I get rid of my convict I want him to have a friend, not sure what tho...

sorry but you need to get a mutch bigger tank than that you can't get anymore fish in there ill be surised if he dosent kill your convict! sorry but you need at least a 30 gallon tank just for the two!
i would sell your convict and get the money to save for a bigger tank.
