Hello people.

Just a few questions.

Exactly how aggressive are Lombardoi's? I've read a few articles about them being very aggresive, but I want to hear what people who keep/have kept them think.

Also are they less aggressive when kept in larger tanks and crowded tanks compared to normal tanks?

from my experiences they are brutal in small tanks (75g or less). they have large territories and will defend them. they seem to do better if crowded in such tanks, but may/will go berzerk. i havent had them in anything larger, so i cant tell you for sure, but my guess is they do ok with more room. (like just about anything!!!). i have a friend that had a few in a 55g with 10 other cichlids and one of the female kenyi killed every other fish in the tank, one-by-one until she was the only one left. that fish wound up the only occupant in that tank for 5 years before he sold me the tank. he took the fish to the lfs because i didnt want her mean butt killing my fish. she was gorgeous though.

ok, thanks acei.

So, i guess females are just as aggressive as males then. Maybe I should steer clear from the lombardois. Maybe i'll look into getting something different, something less aggressive.

The tank is a 115g, but it already has electric yellows and other fish in it, so i don't want to risk anything.

its up to you. the tank sounds big enough. i, personally would pass on the kenyi. they are sweet looking, but there are many more africans that look similar that arent such terrors.

Go with some saulosi. They look almost the same as lombardoi but the males are blue and the females are yellow. They only get about 4in and arn't near as agressive. They only problem you may have is that saulosi females and yellow labs are almost the same color.

yeah, I actually already have 1 small Saulosi in the tank. And I really like them. So i'll probably end up getting some more sometime soon. I think 4 more would be ok.

the kenyi would most likely terrorize the soulosi because they look so similar.
