I have a 180 gallon aquarium . . . and for a while, the only occupant was my Pacu. I got this Pacu when he was the size of a Molly, and now he's about 12 to 13 inches long and gorgeous!

I wanted to add one more tankmate for him to the tank, but I couldn't think of a fish that could hold its own and survive with him in there. I read a lot about "Midas Cichlids," and everyone said they were beautiful terrors that would absolutely destroy everything in the tank. I chanced it and added a 2 inch Midas Cichlid to the mix . . .

And, I noticed some strange behavior . . . the Midas Cichlid hid for the first couple of days, but after that . . . things changed. The Midas Cichlid would just constantly stay next to the red on the Pacu's red belly. And, the two were inseparable. They would swim in the middle of the tank side by side all the time. My Pacu did not try to eat it, and the Midas Cichlid did not attack the Pacu. It was like a mother and daughter . . .

Is this strange or just normal 'cause the Midas Cichlid is so young?

Midas cichlids start becoming territory hungry when they become sexually mature. I dont' think you should have a huge problem keeping those two together, just be cautious so the pacu doesn't swallow the midas.
